Meet the Team

  • Emily Harville at the Tulane School of Public Health has a PhD in epidemiology and has conducted several quantitative and qualitative studies on effects of disaster on pregnancy.  
  • Kirsten Dorans is an implementation scientist and epidemiologist with experience working with pregnant women and interventions.  
  • Gloria Giarratano is a nurse researcher and advanced practice Maternal-Infant Clinical Nurse Specialist.  
  • Michelle Patterson serves as a faculty within the College of Nursing at Nicholls State University, is currently teaching in the Community Health Nursing course, and is the Director of Nursing Continuing Professional Development.  
  • Sherri Longo practices Maternal-Fetal medicine at Ochsner.
  • Mary Schultheis is the Founder, President, and CEO of Crescent City Family Services. 
  • Karen Weis is an obstetrical nurse who developed and validated the M-O-M-S™ intervention and is faculty at the University of Kansas School of Nursing.   
  • Bianka Northland is a MD/MPH student at Tulane originally from Florida and living in the New Orleans area for about 10 years. She has primarily been helping with starting up the program through interviewing providers and pregnant and post-partum women about their experience during Hurricane Ida. She is passionate about maternal health and building community!
  • Anna LaRussa is a second year medical student at Tulane. She grew up in Birmingham, AL, and she has been in New Orleans since 2019, when she first arrived to complete her masters in medical genetics and genomics. She is dedicated to improving maternal and fetal outcomes and is passionate about medical education and resource availability for pregnant women. She is active in the recruitment process for M-O-M-S™ on the Bayou, running the social media accounts, and assisting with in person recruitment events.
  • Sarah Turner is a M-O-M-S™ on the Bayou group facilitator and serves as a Community Health Worker for Tulane University. 
  • Simone Harris is a Trauma-Integrated Restorative Justice Practitioner, Social-Emotional Learning Specialist, & Culture Bearer. Simone comes from a long lineage of Storytellers, Root-Cause Practitioners, Circle Keepers, & members of Tribal Counsel who helped to restore peace and wellbeing in the community during times of transition, loss, great change, disaster, and conflict, individually, communally, and across generations.
